Frank M Leonard    

Frank M Leonard, was a professional writer who was employed in-house at Philip Morris from June 1978 to 1984 (and later as an outside contractor) His job was to ghost scientific/medial articles and letters-to-the-editor for the to plant on magazines like Newsweek, Time, etc. carrying the bylines of prominent compliant scientists.

1978 July: Leonard joined Philip Morris.

MRFIT
1992 The Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial, (MRFIT) sponsored by National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, was run over 10 years with patient-intervention involvement over 7 years. [Advising subjects to modify diet and smoking habits] It had cost $115 million and ended in 1982. Dr Carl C Seltzer of Harvard was put to work to counter some of the adverse findings.

1983 Mar 10: The MRFIT study involved heart disease and other health conditions, and, from the smoking viewpoint, it was moderately inconclusive. Senator Waxman was holding Congressional hearings on it. Seltzer would give evidence for the tobacco industry. Leonard was ghosting an article for Philip Morris on MRFIT that would carry Carl Seltzer's byline.

1983 May 11: Leonard was sending PM executive Jim Bowling ghosted article on the MRFIT study which would carry Seltzer name. They would try Newsweek first, and then the Times.

1984: Leonard left the employ of Philip Morris, but continued to work for them as an outside contractor.

1984 Sept: International Corporate Affairs Conference of PM

    Mr Leonard joined Philip Morris Incorporated in July 1978 and retired in 1984.
    His previous experience is as owner/operator of a public relations firm. Mr Leonard attended Fordham Uhiversity.
