Robert Kovoloff

— Product placement pusher. He runs a business offering promotional links between the floggers of product and the makers of movies or TV programs. —

He is said to be the top movie product placement agent in Hollywood. The whole idea is to get the benefit of star-identification, along with the promotion of products like tobacco which can not be advertised in the normal way.

Some key documents

1984: Invasion of the Movie Product-Pushers. An article on the success of the major movie product placement organisations

"Your product ought to be in pictures," promoters like Robert Kovoloff sing to clients. So successful are Kovoloff and his rivals there may have to be a new Academy Award-for "Best Supporting Product."

    Kovoloff's network is such that some recent movies have begun to resemble brand-name sales conventions.

    Kovoloff has carefully pieced together his 31-person staff not only for their technical savvy but for their own movie-industry contacts. His staff includes:
  • Ron Kaufman, executive vice president, a seasoned film production manager who has been in over 30 movies himself and has key studio contacts ;
  • Ace Holmes, a celebrated movie property master for over 40 years,who has worked on dozens of major movies;
  • Eleanor Mondale, daughter of Presidential hopeful Walter Mondale, who has quickly built up her own movie contacts ; and
  • James Ripslinger, the firm's well-connected administrative vice president and corporate counsel.
