CigLit    

A joint venture of attorneys who were fighting to ban cigarette advertising

1990: / E Brochure: A New State-wide Joint Venture of Texas Trial Lawyers. Formed exclusively for litigating claims based on disease caused by cigarette smoking/
    The organizers of CigLit are attorneys WW Watkins, WE Townsley and Wayne Fisher. By invitation, other Texas Trial Lawyers will become associates of the joint venture.

    The Texas courts have never passed on the issue of whether cigarette companies, unlike all other manufacturers, should be immune from legal liability to their millions of victims. The CigLit attorneys will present this issue to the Texas courts for an appropriate decision.

Our CigLit Joint Venture is not against the smoker, and is not against the sale of cigarettes.

    CigLit, however, is against the promotion of cigarette smoking. Such promotion, in reality, is promoting disease and death by pushing a powerfully addictive substance to children, as well as to adults.
The Surgeon General states these diseases are caused by cigarette smoking.
  • 30% of all cancer, including 85% of all lung cancer;
  • A major cause of coronary heart disease, strokes, peripheral vascular disease and aortic aneurysm ; and
  • 80 to 90% of all deaths from emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

    The associates of Watkins, Townsley, Fisher & Associates (the CigLit joint venture) are now available to consult, without obligation or cost, with persons who may be considering claims based on any of the above diseases which the Surgeon General associates with cigarette smoking.
