Marcie Allingham
— Environetics could be contracted through the Tobacco Institute to advise on office space design if separate areas for smokers was deemed necessary. Of course the Tobacco Industry used the information to fight against smoking restrictions of any kind. —
Some key documents Envionetic Inc - Space Planning Consultancy
1984 July 6: Ogilvy & Mather PR's June Monthly report to the Tobacco Institute says: We met with Marcy Allingham from Environetics and asked her to submit a new proposal including an increased sample broken out by industry and the use of local design professionals for promoting the results. We will still be involved in reviewing the project, but Allingham will work directly with Susan Stuntz from now on.
1984 Dec 3: Examples of Tobacco Institute documents on Workplace Smoking. The company Response Analysis Corporation has put together a series of booklets for the TI: one each on the Construction Industry, Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Industries, Government, Labor Unions, Manufacturing, Transport, Communications and Utilities Industries, etc.
Susan Stuntz at the Tobacco Institute also lists human and other resources available to fight workplace smoking bans (including a list of various surveys): - Lew Solomon: Dean of Education UCLA
- Al Vogel: Response Analysis Corp
- Marcie Allingham: Environetics Inc, Space Planning Consultants
Environetics is surveying facilities planners on how they might separate their employees into smoking and nonsmoking sections if necessary. The survey, which will be completed by the first of the year, will be used to develop a checklist of items planners must take into account in such situations. Early returns have officials at such places as CBS, M&M Mars and RCA adamantly stating the impossibility of such segregation. Environetics officials will be available to review and discuss their findings with other design associations, and with legislative groups.
- Steve Schlossberg: Attorney, ex General Counsel, United Auto Workers.
Schlossberg is available as an expert witness to discuss how smoking restrictions undermine union bargaining prerogatives. In addition, he is developing a paper outlining his arguments. That paper is currently under review and should be available by the first of the year.
- David McCormack: Fire consultant McCormack, who was heavily involved in the "fire-safe" cigarette project, now is looking into ways in which we might fight police and fireftghter smoker hiring bans. Schlossberg will be available to assist him.
- Eva Baker: Director of the UCLA Center for the Study of Evaluation.
- Robert Ethridge: President, American Association for Affirmative Action
- Robert Klotz: law enforcement consultant
