— A Republican aide caught up in the Congressional revolving door —
Some key documents
1997 Jan 27: A Republican aide who was Chief of Staff to Congressman R Hoke (R-Ohio) and before that for Robert Dornan (R-Calif). He wanted to bail out and land softly on a pile of money at the Tobacco Institute and was cold-calling, offering himself as a senior staff lobbyist.[His timing leaves something to be desired, one might think]
After 13-plus years on Capitol Hill, I am ready for a new challenge and ask you to consider my qualifications. A copy of my resume is enclosed for your review.
The ideal position will be one that puts what I have learned about the legislative process, public relations, communications, and politics — not to mention my relationships with top congressional staffers — to work for a private corporation or association. With Republicans now in charge of Congress, and likely to increase their majority in 1998, it makes sense for companies and associations to begin hiring Republicans for key positions in lobbying, government relations, and consulting.
[He didn't get hired.]
